Originally the building was
used as the Chatteris Labour Exchange. Mr. Stuart Stacey converted the premises
into its present use in 1976, creating the first free house in Chatteris.
Stuart named the pub after his father. This unusual and unique name was given
to Stuart's father by an auctioneer at the local market, because of his
reputation of making a realistic bid.
We have been in residence since 1987 and
our restaurant opened in May 1990. Our aim is simple - to offer a large variety
of traditional cask conditioned ales and a comprehensive and reasonably priced
menu , in comfortable,
friendly surroundings. Our speciality is our home cooked traditional food, such
as Steak and mushroom pie. Also proving popular has been our range of steamed
puddings, Treacle Sponge and Jam Roly Poly.
